Subject: Re-Adoption Day
Update for today:
Today Kaytlin will become ours yet again, on another piece of paper. Although she has been "Ours" for over a year, we are going to finalize her "State Adoption" today. This is not really a necessary step, legally in the eyes of the United States and The P*ople’s R*public of Ch*na, this is not necessary. However, since her birth certificate is in Chinese, we are re-adopting to provide her with a State Birth Certificate. A state registered birth certificate will make school registration, (although I would LOVE to go into the local school with her Ch*nese Birth Certificate, and not take the translation! :) ) a drivers license, and a passport much less complicated to obtain. It also provide security that if something should ever happen to our paperwork from Ch*na, she will have the ability to easily acquire a copy of her birth certificate without having to go through the Provincial Offices in Kunming. So today, we will stand before the Judge at the County Probate Court, and re-state that she is OURS.
Post appointment: HA! This was our State's way of getting their share of the adoption money pie! Sworn in, three questions, sent to pick up our paperwork. I don’t understand why we had to pull the boys from school! Anyway, not even time for a family photo...zip, zap, zoop, out the door. I guess that is what we get for the last docket slot on a Friday afternoon! :) However, in a few weeks we will have a copy of a State Birth Certificate that says she is ours, yet again! :)
